The Oyo State Government has received two surveillance aircraft acquired to boost security operations, fulfilling its promise to deliver the aircraft before the end of July.
The Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, confirmed the development in a statement on Tuesday, describing the arrival of the aircraft in Ibadan as a major milestone in the state’s efforts to enhance intelligence gathering and aerial surveillance.
According to Oyelade, the aircraft will improve the operational capacity of security agencies and strengthen the state’s response to emerging security threats.
He recalled that the government announced the acquisition of the two surveillance aircraft on July 8 as part of Governor Seyi Makinde’s broader strategy to reinforce security across Oyo State.
The commissioner also noted that Governor Makinde had disclosed on July 18 that the aircraft had arrived in Nigeria and were being reassembled at the Nigerian Air Force hangar in Lagos ahead of their deployment.
Oyelade said the government had assured residents about a week ago that the aircraft would be delivered to Oyo State before the end of July, adding that the latest development fulfilled that commitment.
The surveillance aircraft are expected to support security agencies, including the Amotekun Corps, as well as other security formations, by enhancing aerial monitoring, intelligence gathering and rapid response to criminal activities across the state.
The state government expressed confidence that the new air assets would significantly strengthen ongoing efforts to safeguard lives and property while improving coordination among security agencies operating in Oyo State.
