The Lagos State Government recorded 6,753 cases of gender-based violence in 2025, of which 2,460 survivors obtained justice through government intervention and support mechanisms, while 116 offenders were prosecuted and 3,099 victims received recovery, counselling, and support services, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Mrs. Bolaji Cecilia Dada disclosed at a ministerial press briefing.
Of the total GBV cases, 6,213 involved female victims and 540 involved males. Of the 2,460 who obtained justice, 2,263 were female and 197 were male. The ministry also implemented 75,037 preventive actions through community sensitization campaigns, advocacy programs, and public enlightenment across urban, rural, and riverine communities during the review period.
Dada said 273 survivors were provided with livelihood support programs to help them rebuild their lives and attain financial independence.
On the economic empowerment front, the ministry graduated 5,313 students from its network of tuition-free skills acquisition centers across the 19 Skills Acquisition Centers in the five divisions of Lagos and the Women Development Centre in Agege. Skills acquired included fashion design, catering, cosmetology, barbing, ICT, welding, furniture making, photography, and textile production.
To help graduates translate skills into income, the government provided tools and equipment to 5,339 beneficiaries under its Micro Enterprise Support Initiative. A further 600 beneficiaries received Android phones after completing a three-day Digital Marketing and E-Commerce Training Program, equipping artisans, market women, traders, and young entrepreneurs with practical skills in online marketing, social media branding, and e-commerce.
