The Kwara State Government has reunited 146 residents of Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area with their families after a 21 day rehabilitation programme following their release from captivity.

The state also provided financial support intended to help survivors rebuild their lives.

Adults received N1 million each, youths received N500,000 and children received N200,000.

Kaiama Local Government Chairman Abubakar Abdullahi Danladi said the return of the survivors was a major moment for the community.

He thanked the Federal and Kwara State Governments for efforts connected with their rescue, rehabilitation and reintegration.

Three other victims were still receiving treatment in hospital at the time of the reunion.

Community leaders said the survivors needed continued psychological and economic support after the trauma they had experienced.

Woro Village Head Umar Saliu appealed for assistance to farmers and businesses affected by the attack.

He said the rebuilding of shops damaged during the incident had begun but warned that agriculture and other livelihoods had also been severely disrupted.

The chairman of the intervention committee between the community and government, Ahmed Ibn Ahmed, said 13 people were still in captivity.

He appealed for stronger efforts to secure their release.

The committee also called for additional security around communities bordering the national park, where criminal groups were alleged to operate.

Residents said electricity restoration and economic support were also needed to stabilize the community.

Survivors expressed relief at returning home.

One beneficiary said she intended to use the financial support to restart her salon business.

Another described the emotional difficulty of rebuilding her life after months in captivity.

Residents gathered in large numbers to welcome the returnees.

The Woro attack reportedly occurred on February 3, when 176 people were abducted.

Many of the victims were later rescued on August 5. The state government said rehabilitation and financial assistance were intended to help survivors transition from rescue to long term recovery
