Kebbi at 35: Idris Says State Has Made Steady Progress, Calls for Unity

Kebbi State Governor Nasiru Idris has described the state’s 35th anniversary as a moment for reflection, gratitude and renewed commitment to development.

In a statement marking the anniversary, Idris said Kebbi had recorded progress across infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, economic empowerment, solid minerals development and security since its creation in 1991.

The governor credited successive administrations with laying foundations that allowed later governments to expand public services and development programmes.

He said his administration, which came into office in 2023, had focused on fulfilling campaign commitments and delivering projects with direct impact on communities.

Idris highlighted investments in rural roads, water supply, healthcare facilities and empowerment programmes for women, young people and farmers across the state’s 21 local government areas.

He said those interventions were intended to improve living conditions at grassroots level while stimulating local economic activity.

The governor pledged that his administration would continue implementing people focused projects and expand programmes that supported household incomes and community development.

Idris also stressed the importance of peace and security.

He urged residents to cooperate with security agencies, remain vigilant and report suspicious activity.

According to him, development could not be sustained in an atmosphere of insecurity or political instability.

The governor appealed to citizens to support government policies and remain committed to unity, lawful conduct and sustainable development.

He also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and said peaceful coexistence among Kebbi’s diverse ethnic and religious communities remained one of his administration’s priorities.

Idris said the 35th anniversary should encourage residents to acknowledge past progress while accepting responsibility for the state’s future.

He argued that continued investment in infrastructure, human capital and security would determine whether Kebbi converted its development potential into lasting improvements in living standards.
