Governor Dikko Umaru Radda has unveiled a proposed N828.64 billion budget for the 2027 fiscal year, with the Katsina State Government projecting N95.77 billion in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to help finance the spending plan.
Presenting the 2027 Appropriation Bill, tagged “Building Your Future IV,” before the Katsina State House of Assembly on Monday, Radda said the state expects total recurrent revenue of N583.58 billion. This consists of N95.77 billion from IGR and N487.81 billion from allocations from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC).
The governor noted that the recurrent revenue projection represents an increase of N5.93 billion, or 1.03 per cent, compared to the previous estimate.
According to him, the administration plans to invest N325.45 billion, representing 51.02 per cent of the capital budget, in critical sectors aimed at driving economic growth and improving living standards across the state.
Education received the highest allocation of N83.82 billion, accounting for 13.14 per cent of the capital budget. Radda said the funds would be used to upgrade educational infrastructure and expand scholarship programmes.
The works and housing sector was allocated N71.60 billion, representing 11.22 per cent of the capital budget, to support road construction and rehabilitation projects, housing development, improved connectivity and urban expansion initiatives.
Agriculture and livestock received N65.88 billion, or 10.33 per cent of the capital budget, reflecting the government’s commitment to food security, livestock value-chain development and climate-smart agricultural practices.
The health sector is set to receive N53.64 billion, representing 8.41 per cent of the capital expenditure. Radda said the allocation would fund the expansion and upgrading of healthcare facilities, strengthen diagnostic services and provide specialised equipment for cancer diagnosis and treatment at the state’s tertiary health institution.
For rural development, the government earmarked N50.51 billion, representing 7.92 per cent of the capital budget, to improve rural infrastructure and support community-driven development programmes.
The governor added that the remaining N312.47 billion, representing 48.98 per cent of the capital budget, would be distributed among other strategic sectors, including security and e-governance.
In his response, Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly, Hon. Nasir Yahaya Daura, assured the governor of the legislature’s commitment to expediting consideration and passage of the N828.64 billion 2027 budget proposal.
