The Katsina State Government has dismissed allegations that it sponsored Hajj pilgrimage for bandit leaders or individuals involved in criminal activities, describing the claims as false, misleading, and without any factual basis.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasir Muazu, the government rejected remarks allegedly made by Bashir Kurfi during a programme aired on Trust TV, in which he claimed that the state government facilitated Hajj trips for bandit leaders.
The government said the allegation was entirely unfounded and amounted to a deliberate attempt to misinform the public and undermine ongoing efforts by security agencies and the state administration to address insecurity across Katsina State.
According to the statement, the claims surfaced at a time when security agencies, with the support of the state government, have recorded notable successes in combating banditry and other criminal activities. The government argued that the allegations appeared designed to divert attention from these achievements and erode public confidence in ongoing security operations.
The state government further expressed concern over what it described as attempts by certain individuals and groups to politicize security issues for personal and political interests. It alleged that some actors were dissatisfied with the government’s refusal to support schemes it characterized as questionable and aimed at diverting public resources from developmental projects and programmes.
The government challenged those making the allegations to provide credible and verifiable evidence to support their claims, warning that failure to do so could compel it to pursue legal measures to protect its reputation and hold accountable those responsible for spreading what it termed false and defamatory information.
Reaffirming its commitment to tackling insecurity, the Katsina State Government urged residents and the general public to disregard the allegations and continue supporting security agencies and stakeholders working to restore peace and stability across the state.
The government also reiterated its resolve to strengthen security measures and implement policies aimed at safeguarding the lives, property, and welfare of residents throughout the state.
