Traditional and religious leaders linked to the Kano Emirate have urged Nigerians to intensify prayers and promote peaceful conduct ahead of the 2027 general election.
The appeal was made during a Qur’anic graduation ceremony attended by religious leaders, parents and students.
Representing the Emir of Kano, Awal Ado Bayero congratulated the graduates and urged them to treat completion of their studies as the beginning of a lifelong commitment to the values they had learned.
He said religious education should contribute to good character, tolerance and responsible citizenship.
Bayero also called on the graduates and their families to pray for peaceful and credible elections.
Other speakers linked the moral upbringing of children to the wider challenge of building a stable and secure country.
Representatives of public officials at the event encouraged the students to make the teachings of the Qur’an part of their daily lives.
The Principal of the Abuja National Mosque Academy said religious education should go beyond memorisation and produce individuals capable of applying ethical principles to everyday conduct.
Speakers urged Nigerians to reject violence and intolerance and to approach the coming election period with discipline and respect for others.
