Kaduna Begins Statewide Reactive Vaccination Against Diphtheria

Kaduna State Government has commenced a statewide reactive vaccination campaign against diphtheria across the state’s 23 Local Government Areas.

The exercise, which began on September 12 and will run through September 17, 2026, is aimed at protecting eligible children from the potentially life-threatening disease.

Flagging off the campaign at the Primary Health Centre in Badarawa, the Commissioner for Health, Hajiya Umma K. Ahmed, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding children through vaccination, early detection and prompt response to suspected cases.

Health teams have been deployed to communities, markets and other public spaces as part of efforts to reach eligible children. The campaign is also being supported by awareness activities across radio, television and social media platforms.

The state government urged parents and caregivers to take eligible children to designated vaccination points to ensure they receive protection against diphtheria.

Residents were also advised to remain vigilant for possible symptoms of the disease, including fever, weakness, sore throat, cough, catarrh, and difficulty breathing or swallowing.

The government urged anyone exhibiting such symptoms to seek medical attention promptly.
