Nigerian-British actor John Boyega and his wife, American actress Lashontae “Tae” Heckard, have welcomed their first child together.
Boyega announced the birth on Instagram, sharing photographs and videos showing him with the newborn and images from Heckard’s pregnancy.
The actor revealed that the baby had been born some time ago and thanked fans for their prayers and congratulatory messages.
He also used the occasion to celebrate his sister, who is expecting a child, and encouraged supporters to extend their goodwill to her as well.
Heckard responded warmly to the announcement, while several celebrities, including Fast & Furious star Tyrese Gibson, congratulated the couple.
The newborn is Boyega’s first child and Heckard’s second, as she has a son from a previous relationship.
The announcement comes months after Boyega disclosed that he and Heckard had secretly married nearly two years ago. Speaking during the promotion of the documentary Damilola: The Untold Story, the actor revealed that the couple held a private wedding ceremony and expressed hopes of hosting a larger celebration in the future.
Boyega, whose parents are Nigerian, has frequently spoken about his strong ties to Nigeria and often references the country during interviews and public appearances.
