Israeli Strikes in Lebanon Kill Four Amid Ceasefire Tensions

At least four people have been killed in fresh Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon, despite an existing ceasefire agreement between Israel and the militant group Hezbollah.According to Lebanon’s health ministry, the deadly strike occurred on Wednesday in the town of Zellaya, West Bekaa, Lebanon, where four individuals—including two women and an elderly man—lost their lives. Local media reported that the attack hit the residence of the town’s mayor, killing him alongside members of his family. The strike came shortly before the Israeli military issued evacuation warnings to residents of more than a dozen towns and villages in southern Lebanon, many of them located north of the Litani River. In a brief statement, the Israeli army said it had launched operations targeting what it described as “Hezbollah terror infrastructure sites” across multiple locations in Lebanon.Additional strikes and artillery bombardments were reported in several areas, including Yohmor al-Shaqeef, Nabatieh District, Lebanon, where plumes of smoke were seen rising near the historic Beaufort Castle, Lebanon. For its part, Hezbollah said it had carried out attacks on Israeli forces and vehicles in border areas, describing the actions as retaliation for what it called Israeli violations of the ceasefire. The ceasefire, brokered on April 17 with support from the United States, has been repeatedly tested, with both sides accusing each other of breaches.Since the escalation began earlier this year, Israeli strikes in Lebanon have reportedly killed more than 2,700 people, including dozens since the ceasefire took effect. The Israeli military has also reported casualties among its personnel during the conflict. The latest developments underscore the fragile nature of the truce, raising concerns about a potential return to broader hostilities in the region.
