Iran’s foreign ministry has accused the United States of breaching a fragile ceasefire agreement over the past 48 hours, escalating tensions in the Gulf region.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the ministry alleged that US forces carried out actions it described as violations of the truce in Iran’s southern coastal province of Hormozgan, though it did not provide specific details of the incident.
The accusation follows earlier reports from the US Central Command, which said American forces had on Monday targeted missile sites and boats in southern Iran that were allegedly preparing to deploy mines in the Gulf.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), however, claimed it responded by firing at US aircraft it said were attempting to enter Iranian airspace.
“The US terrorist army, continuing its illegal and unjustified actions since the ceasefire… has, in the past 48 hours, committed a gross violation of the ceasefire in the Hormozgan region,” the Iranian foreign ministry said.
The ministry added that Tehran “will not leave any evil unanswered and will not hesitate to defend the Iranian nation,” without providing further operational details.
The development comes as diplomatic efforts continue, with an Iranian delegation reportedly in Qatar for talks aimed at sustaining the ceasefire and exploring pathways to end the ongoing conflict with the United States, which began on February 28.
Tensions between both countries have remained high despite intermittent ceasefire arrangements, with both sides continuing to trade accusations of military provocations in the strategic Gulf region.
