Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu has said police cannot produce Adeniyi Adeyemi, the disputed Director General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, before the House of Representatives without a warrant from a competent court, since he remains in custody under an existing detention order.

A police delegation led by Deputy Commissioner Olufemi Akinola told the House committee investigating the council’s inclusion in the 2026 budget that while the police remain committed to cooperating with the inquiry, producing Adeyemi requires a court reproduction warrant given his current custody status. Committee Chairman Yusuf Gagdi clarified that police had not refused to honor the invitation but were constrained by the existing court order, saying the committee would continue working within the law.

Separately, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation Didi Walson-Jack acknowledged that her office made administrative errors in processing approvals connected to the disputed council, admitting that proper due diligence should have been carried out before recognizing it as an official body, and described the episode as unprecedented in the history of her office. Gagdi said the committee has secured approval from House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas to present preliminary findings publicly next week after hearing from remaining stakeholders, reiterating the panel’s commitment to a transparent investigation.
