The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise by an additional two weeks to allow more eligible Nigerians to register ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The extension, which will commence on Wednesday, is aimed at giving new entrants, particularly citizens who have recently attained the age of 18 the opportunity to complete their voter registration before future electoral activities.
According to the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), the commission introduced the extension to ensure that all eligible prospective voters have adequate time to register and participate in the country’s electoral process.
INEC also encouraged intending registrants to make use of its online voter registration portal to begin the registration process, noting that the initiative is designed to reduce overcrowding at its offices across the states.
The commission advised eligible Nigerians to take advantage of the online platform and complete the registration process within the extended period to avoid last-minute rushes.
The Continuous Voter Registration exercise is part of INEC’s preparations for the 2027 general elections and is intended to expand the country’s voter register by accommodating newly eligible voters and other qualified applicants.
