Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to intelligence-led, technology-driven and evidence-based policing during a working visit to Enugu State.
As part of the visit, the IGP participated in the commissioning of the Centre for DNA Forensics, Criminal Investigation and Biotechnology (DeFOCI), which he described as a strategic national asset that will strengthen criminal investigations, improve the administration of justice and support the adoption of scientific methods in modern policing.
Disu commended Enugu State Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, Godfrey Okoye University, the DNA Learning Center and other partners involved in establishing the facility.
According to him, the centre will provide opportunities for forensic research, capacity building and institutional collaboration, while supporting investigations into serious crimes such as homicide, kidnapping, terrorism, armed robbery, cybercrime, human trafficking and sexual offences.
The IGP said the facility represents an important step in expanding Nigeria’s forensic capabilities and aligning policing practices with evolving security challenges.
During an address to officers of the Enugu State Police Command, Disu praised their dedication and sacrifices in maintaining peace and security across the state.
He urged personnel to remain vigilant, strengthen intelligence gathering, embrace continuous professional development and uphold the highest standards of discipline, integrity and respect for human rights in the discharge of their duties.
The police chief also assured officers that the Force would continue to prioritise personnel welfare, training, operational capacity and the provision of modern policing equipment.
At the same time, he reiterated the Force’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption, misconduct, abuse of office and other unethical practices capable of undermining public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.
Disu said the Police Force remains committed to strengthening forensic capabilities and deepening institutional partnerships to ensure that policing in Nigeria keeps pace with the country’s evolving security needs.
