IGP Disu Inspects 23 Police Barracks, Reaffirms Commitment to Personnel Welfare

LAGOS – The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has inspected 23 police barracks across the country as part of efforts to assess the living conditions of officers and their families and evaluate the state of welfare infrastructure within the facilities.

The inspection exercise focused on residential quarters and other welfare-related amenities, with the police chief engaging officers and residents while conducting on-the-spot assessments of infrastructure and accommodation conditions.

According to the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), the exercise provided a comprehensive review of welfare challenges affecting personnel and helped identify areas requiring urgent intervention, rehabilitation and sustained investment.

The Force said the initiative reflects the IGP’s commitment to placing personnel welfare at the centre of ongoing police reforms, stressing that quality accommodation and functional welfare facilities are critical to improving officers’ morale, wellbeing and operational effectiveness.

During the visits, Disu assured personnel that concerns and welfare gaps identified during the inspections would receive appropriate attention. He emphasised the importance of evidence-based assessments in designing practical solutions to address infrastructure deficiencies in police barracks nationwide.

The inspection tour is also expected to enhance administrative responsiveness to welfare and infrastructure challenges while improving the overall living environment for police personnel and their families.

Reiterating his commitment to officers’ wellbeing, the IGP said police personnel who dedicate themselves to protecting lives and property deserve decent and conducive living conditions.

He noted that improved welfare remains a key component of efforts to build a motivated, professional and efficient police force capable of effectively carrying out its constitutional responsibilities.

The Nigeria Police Force further pledged to sustain investments aimed at improving the welfare of officers and their families, particularly through the provision of better accommodation, upgraded welfare infrastructure and other support mechanisms.

According to the Force, ongoing efforts to improve living conditions in police barracks will complement broader initiatives aimed at strengthening the capacity of officers to discharge their duties effectively and deliver improved policing services to the public.
