IGP Deploys AIG to Plateau for Security Assessment, Orders Reinforcement in Bokkos

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has deployed the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 4 Headquarters, Makurdi, Dankombo F. Morris, to Plateau State for an operational assessment following recent attacks in Bokkos Local Government Area.

The deployment comes amid renewed efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to strengthen security and restore peace in communities affected by the violence.

During the assessment visit on June 23, 2026, AIG Morris visited Kawel Community in Mushere District, Bokkos Local Government Area, where he met with community leaders, traditional rulers, and other key stakeholders to evaluate the security situation and assess ongoing interventions aimed at restoring stability.

Speaking during the visit, the AIG conveyed the condolences of the IGP and the Force Management Team to families who lost loved ones in the attacks. He assured residents that security agencies were committed to identifying and prosecuting those responsible for the violence.

According to him, all necessary lawful measures are being taken to apprehend the perpetrators and prevent further attacks in the area.

AIG Morris also disclosed that, on the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, additional security personnel and operational assets have been deployed to Plateau State, particularly to communities in Bokkos Local Government Area, to bolster ongoing security operations and enhance protection for residents.

He urged members of the affected communities to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies, and avoid reprisal attacks that could further escalate tensions.

As part of his visit, the senior police officer paid courtesy calls on Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, and the traditional ruler of the Berom nation, Da Jacob Gyang Buba. During the meetings, he reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to working closely with the state government and other stakeholders to address security challenges across Plateau State.

The Police Force said it remains committed to collaborating with sister security agencies, community leaders, and relevant stakeholders to safeguard lives and property, maintain public safety, and promote lasting peace in Plateau State and across the country.
