Ibom Air Receives Third Airbus A220 as Fleet Expands to 10 Aircraft

Ibom Air has taken delivery of its third Airbus A220 300 aircraft as the Akwa Ibom State owned carrier continues its fleet modernization and expansion programme.

The aircraft, registered 5N CDC, was formally handed over at the Airbus A220 final assembly facility in Mirabel, Canada.

Ibom Air Managing Director George Uriesi said the additional aircraft would improve efficiency, passenger comfort, environmental performance and network growth.

He thanked Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno for supporting the airline’s expansion.

The latest delivery brings Ibom Air’s total fleet to 10 aircraft.

The airline now operates seven regional jets and three Airbus A220 300s.

Ibom Air placed a firm order for 10 Airbus A220 300 aircraft at the Dubai Airshow in 2021.

The latest aircraft is the second delivered under that order.

The airline received its first factory new A220 under the order in 2023 and acquired another A220 outright in 2024.

Airbus Canada Chief Executive Guillaume Chevasson said the A220 was suited to Ibom Air’s domestic and regional network because of its fuel efficiency, flexibility and passenger comfort.

The airline said the newer aircraft would lower the average age of its fleet and support plans to expand destinations within Nigeria and West Africa.

Ibom Air has increasingly positioned the A220 as a central part of its growth strategy because of its range and operating economics.

The remaining aircraft under the order are expected to be delivered in subsequent phases.
