The House of Representatives ad hoc committee investigating the disputed Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council has issued a final warning to government ministries, departments and agencies that have failed to honor its invitations, describing the non compliance as a serious affront to its constitutional oversight powers.

In a statement, the committee said invitations from a duly constituted House committee are not discretionary but issued under constitutional powers granted to the National Assembly, making compliance a legal obligation. It set Thursday as the final opportunity for defaulting agencies to appear with relevant officers and documents, warning that any agency that fails to comply without lawful justification will face constitutional and statutory measures to compel accountability.

Separately, the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs formally distanced itself from the disputed council, stating it had never officially engaged with the organization or its self described Director General, Adeniyi Adeyemi, whom security authorities reportedly confirmed was unknown to the federal government. Permanent Secretary Dunoma Umar Ahmed, representing Foreign Affairs Minister Bianca Odumegwu Ojukwu before the committee, said Adeyemi had approached the ministry on three separate occasions seeking cooperation for a proposed investment summit, but that each request was rejected following due diligence that uncovered inconsistencies in his documentation.

Ahmed said the ministry subsequently wrote to the Office of the National Security Adviser seeking clarification, and was told after inquiries with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and the Chief of Staff to the President that Adeyemi was unknown to those offices. He said the ministry had never taken part in any diplomatic engagement involving the council and had not facilitated any foreign investors or agreements on its behalf.
