Nigeria and Germany have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral ties, with Germany pledging additional investment as both countries explore expanded cooperation in energy, technology and security.
The commitment came during a meeting in Abuja between Nigeria’s Foreign Minister Bianca Odumegwu Ojukwu and Germany’s Federal Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul. Odumegwu Ojukwu described Germany as one of Nigeria’s most important strategic partners in Europe, noting that the relationship spans trade, development cooperation, renewable energy, education and security, and urged increased German investment in sectors including renewable energy, manufacturing, critical minerals and digital technology.
Wadephul, marking more than 65 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries, said Nigeria remains Germany’s largest European trading partner on a bilateral basis, with trade between the two countries rising 10 percent in the past year, and said the Nigeria Germany Business Forum would continue serving as a platform for expanding commercial ties and attracting more German investors, particularly in Nigeria’s energy sector. Both ministers also reaffirmed their commitment to regional stability, including through cooperation with ECOWAS on shared security threats.
