Fubara Says Successor Will Sustain Rivers Development Projects

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has expressed confidence that projects initiated by his administration will continue after his tenure, saying development should not stop with any individual government.

Fubara spoke while inaugurating the reconstructed Buguma Tema Degema Abonnema Road.

He acknowledged that his administration might not complete every requested project before leaving office but said unfinished developments should be carried forward by a future government.

The governor said he expected his political party and eventual successor to sustain ongoing projects.

Fubara recalled deciding to rehabilitate the road after using the corridor during a visit to Abonnema and seeing its poor condition.

He said years of neglect had affected transportation and allowed sections of the route to become unsafe.

The completed road is expected to improve movement, strengthen local commerce and reduce security risks.

Fubara also cited the ongoing Trans Kalabari Road as another major project intended to expand infrastructure across the riverine area.

He said completed infrastructure would also help the administration present its record to voters ahead of the 2027 general election.

The governor thanked host communities for cooperating with contractors and said community support had contributed to successful delivery.

The Amayanabo of Abonnema Kingdom, Disreal Gbobo Bob Manuel II, formally inaugurated the road and described it as an important project for Kalabari communities.

Works Commissioner Temple Nwofor said the 19.7 kilometre project included rehabilitation of seven bridges, construction of culverts and walkways, street lighting and other supporting infrastructure.

The road serves communities across Asari Toru, Degema and Akuku Toru Local Government Areas.

Fubara said his administration would continue prioritising projects capable of improving living conditions and economic activity across Rivers State.
