Siminalayi Fubara has dismissed reports suggesting that he defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting that he remains a loyal member of the ruling party.
The Rivers State governor made the clarification on Wednesday after inspecting the Neuropsychiatric Hospital and a newly constructed General Hospital in Rumuigbo, Port Harcourt.
Fubara described the reports of his alleged defection as social media speculation and misinterpretation of events, urging the public to disregard the claims.
“I know that there has been a lot of drama in the media, with one story or the other. I am a member of APC and nothing has changed,” the governor said.
“People should stop using whatever situation they pick up from social media or their own interpretation of any situation to present me wrongly. I have not gone anywhere, I am still a member of APC and I remain a member.”
He added that his focus remains on supporting the broader interests of the party and delivering good governance to the people of Rivers State.
The governor also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery across the state, describing the protection of lives and residents’ welfare as a major priority.
According to Fubara, the newly established General Hospital in Rumuigbo was conceived to address challenges associated with limited access to quality healthcare services, especially mental health care, within the area.
He noted that many residents previously depended on the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital for medical attention, often travelling long distances to access treatment.
Fubara explained that the state government decided to utilise available space within the hospital premises to establish a modern General Hospital that would serve residents of Rumuigbo, Rumuola, Rumuolumeni, and neighbouring communities.
The governor said the project forms part of broader efforts by his administration to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and improve access to medical services across Rivers State.
