Renowned journalist and former CNN International anchor, Aisha Sesay, is set to feature as the guest on this week’s edition of African Voices, the flagship magazine programme sponsored by telecommunications company, Globacom.
Unlike her years behind the anchor’s desk interviewing global newsmakers, Sesay will share her own inspiring story during the 30-minute programme, reflecting on her journalism career, humanitarian work and journey into motherhood.
The British-Sierra Leonean journalist, born on January 6, 1976, joined CNN International in 2005 after previous stints with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) and Sky News, where she built a reputation as one of the network’s leading news presenters.
An alumna of Trinity College, Cambridge, Sesay went on to host the inaugural edition of International Desk in 2009, interviewing several prominent world leaders, including former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo and his successor, the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.
She also presented the 360 Bulletin on Anderson Cooper 360° before later anchoring CNN NewsCentre.
Beyond journalism, Sesay founded Women Everywhere Can Lead in 2014, a non-profit organisation focused on promoting education and leadership opportunities for girls across Africa. The organisation provides educational support aimed at empowering young women to become future leaders.
In recent years, Sesay has also attracted public attention after becoming a mother through In-vitro Fertilisation (IVF), embracing parenthood as a single mother.
On the programme, she will discuss her professional journey, advocacy for girls’ education and leadership, as well as her personal experience navigating motherhood.
The latest edition of African Voices will premiere on Saturday at 7:30 a.m., with repeat broadcasts scheduled for 11:00 a.m. the same day, 3:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on Sunday.
Additional rebroadcasts will air on Monday at 3:00 a.m. and 5:45 p.m., as well as Tuesday at 5:45 p.m., with subsequent repeats continuing through the following week.
