First Lady Tasks Girls and Young Women to Dream Big, Says Discipline Is Vital to Success

Wife of the President and National Chairman of the Renewed Hope Initiative, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has urged girls and young women to dream big, stressing that vision, discipline and preparation remain vital to success.

Addressing an event marking three years of the Initiative in the Federal Capital Territory, she encouraged young people to develop a clear sense of purpose. “Dreaming is what keeps any human being going. If you sit and don’t have a dream, a vision of what you want to become, it becomes very tough for you,” she said.

Mrs Tinubu said the Dream Girls Initiative under the FCT structure reflected her belief in helping girls build confidence and character, and urged young people to learn etiquette and protocol for public life.

She said the Initiative, registered in August 2023, had supported women, youths, children, veterans, senior citizens and persons with disabilities with grants, skills, scholarships and emergency assistance. Former FCT Coordinator Dayo Benjamins-Laniyi reported that 27,345 people benefited across six Area Councils over three years.

Minister of Women Affairs Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim said the Initiative had placed women and children at the center of development, while Minister of State for FCT Mariya Mahmud Bunkure praised the First Lady for combining compassion with action.
