Finance Minister Taiwo Oyedele has launched a dedicated website, toll-free call centre, and case management system for the Office of the Tax Ombud, describing the initiative as a milestone in Nigeria’s fiscal reform journey and a demonstration that a modern tax system must be anchored on fairness, accountability, transparency, and trust rather than revenue collection alone.
Speaking at the unveiling in Abuja, Oyedele said taxpayers must have confidence that disputes would be resolved fairly, promptly, and without unnecessary administrative bottlenecks, and that the digital platforms would enable citizens across the country to lodge complaints, engage the tax ombud office, and track the progress of their cases without incurring any charges.
He said the platforms aligned with broader tax reform objectives including simplifying administration, reducing arbitrariness, protecting taxpayers’ rights, encouraging voluntary compliance, and building a fair and globally competitive fiscal system.
Office of the Tax Ombud Chief Executive Dr. John Nwabueze said the initiative represented a major milestone in building a more accessible and responsive dispute resolution framework, describing the digital tools as reflecting global best practices in public service delivery. He said the ultimate goal of the reform was to ensure that every Nigerian taxpayer, regardless of location or business size, had access to fair hearing and effective redress mechanisms.
