The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays to commemorate this year’s Eid ul Adha celebration.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja and signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Magdalene Ajani.
According to the statement, the declaration underscores the Federal Government’s recognition of the religious significance of Eid ul Adha to millions of Muslims in Nigeria and around the world.
Tunji-Ojo congratulated Muslims across the country and in the diaspora, describing the festival as one founded on the values of sacrifice, obedience to God and compassion toward humanity.
He urged Nigerians to use the holiday period for prayers, reflection and renewed commitment to national unity and peaceful coexistence.
The minister also called on citizens to seek divine guidance for the country as it continues efforts toward achieving peace, security and economic prosperity.
“It is in the spirit of brotherhood, shared humanity and national unity that the Federal Government wishes all Muslims a peaceful, blessed and joyous celebration,” the statement said.
