Engineering Academy Crowns Dangote With Honorary Fellowship

Africa’s foremost industrialist, Aliko Dangote, was inducted as an Honorary Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Engineering on April 25, 2026, in formal recognition of his extraordinary contributions to engineering-driven industrial development across Nigeria and the African continent.

The induction, organized by the President and Council of the academy, was described as a celebration of Dangote’s transformative impact on large-scale industrial and infrastructure projects that have redefined the boundaries of what African-owned enterprise could accomplish in capital-intensive sectors historically dominated by foreign interests.

The Nigerian Academy of Engineering, established in 1997, is the apex professional body for engineering in Nigeria and functions as a strategic think-tank on science, technology, and innovation. Its membership comprises distinguished Nigerian and international experts drawn from diverse engineering disciplines and industry sectors, providing critical advisory services to the federal government and private sector on engineering and technological policy.

Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, has championed some of the most technically demanding and economically transformative projects ever conceived and executed on African soil, including a network of technologically advanced cement manufacturing plants across multiple countries and the Dangote Petroleum Refinery in Lekki, Lagos, widely regarded as the largest single-train refinery in the world.

His induction as an Honorary Fellow placed him among a carefully selected group of eminent individuals acknowledged for their significant contributions to the advancement of engineering and technology, regardless of their formal professional engineering credentials.
