Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has held a security meeting with Brigadier-General Kazeem Umar Sidi, Commander of the 12 Brigade in Lokoja, to review security arrangements and adopt proactive measures ahead of the June 20 governorship election, vowing that the state would be too hostile an environment for any criminal or political actor seeking to disrupt the poll.
The governor said his administration had activated strategies in collaboration with security agencies and the federal government to prevent any threat to peace and stability before, during, and after the election. He said discussions centered on the current security situation in the state and identifying emerging threats that required advance attention.
Oyebanji acknowledged that Ekiti remained one of Nigeria’s safest states but said complacency was not an option in the final weeks before polling. He warned criminal elements to steer clear of the state and said security agencies had been placed on alert to deal decisively with any attempt to undermine law and order.
He also cautioned against the spread of fake news and false security alarms, saying misinformation could create unnecessary panic and undermine public confidence ahead of an election that would determine whether his administration continued in office.
