Edo Assembly Speaker Resigns Amid Impeachment Threat

The Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Blessing Agbebaku, has resigned from his position amid reported moves by some lawmakers to impeach him.

Agbebaku’s resignation was confirmed on Monday by his media aide, Ivy Ebojele, in a post on Facebook.

Ebojele, however, did not disclose details surrounding the Speaker’s decision, saying further information would be communicated in due course.

The resignation comes amid reports of an alleged move by members of the Assembly to remove Agbebaku from office.

Agbebaku, who represents the Owan West Constituency, has been Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly since the inauguration of the current Assembly.

Further details on the circumstances surrounding his resignation and the next steps by the lawmakers are expected to emerge as the situation develops.
