The Nigerian military has renewed its commitment to expanding affordable housing for Armed Forces personnel as Defence Properties Limited begins a new phase of operational restructuring and real estate development.
Defence Properties Managing Director Isaiah Allison set out the priorities after assuming office at the company’s headquarters in Abuja.
The organization said its strategy aligned with the wider command philosophy of Chief of Defence Staff Olufemi Oluyede, which emphasized operational effectiveness, jointness, sound administration and personnel welfare.
DPL is expected to play a larger role in managing defence properties and developing housing and other real estate assets.
The company said one of the new management’s priorities was to provide clearer strategic direction and improve productivity.
A maiden staff retreat was organized to review operations, strengthen professional capacity and establish implementation priorities.
Management said the goal was to revitalize the business in ways that generated resources while also supporting welfare across the Army, Navy and Air Force.
Allison’s administration also plans to expand DPL’s real estate activities nationally.
The organization said better use of defence land and property assets could improve housing availability and create more sustainable revenue streams.
The management team has begun inspecting company facilities and strengthening cooperation with other businesses under Defence Holdings Company.
DPL officials recently visited Defence Farms and Agro Allied Products and Defence Engineering Services to explore areas of collaboration.
The company said affordable housing would remain one of the practical welfare areas in which it hoped to make a greater impact.
The challenge will be to develop projects at prices personnel can realistically afford while maintaining commercial viability and transparent management of military property assets.
