Deadly Roadside Bomb Explosion Claims Six Lives in Zamfara

No fewer than six persons were killed and another six injured after an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded along the Bagega–Anka road in Zamfara State on Thursday morning.

The explosion occurred in Anka Local Government Area when a commercial vehicle carrying passengers reportedly struck the explosive while travelling through the route.

Residents alleged that the device was planted by suspected bandits operating within the area. The blast destroyed parts of the vehicle and caused panic among commuters and nearby residents.

Eyewitnesses said the incident happened around 9 a.m., with several passengers dying instantly, while others sustained serious injuries.

The spokesperson for the Zamfara State Police Command, DSP Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the incident, stating that six fatalities had been recorded and six injured victims were currently receiving medical treatment.

He added that security personnel had been deployed to the area to maintain order and reassure residents, noting that normal activities had gradually resumed.

Security agencies have launched investigations into the attack, though no arrests had been announced as of the time of filing this report.

Zamfara remains one of Nigeria’s most troubled states, grappling with recurring attacks linked to banditry, kidnappings, and violent criminal activities.
