Former Minister of Sports Solomon Dalung has said President Bola Tinubu is working hard to lose the 2027 presidential election, arguing that worsening economic hardship and insecurity risk eroding public support for the administration.

In a social media post, Dalung said incumbents typically lose elections not because opposition grows stronger but because they become disconnected from the people they govern, arguing that every unresolved hardship creates another quiet voter against the government and that elections effectively begin long before any formal timetable is announced. He said hunger and economic hardship are more powerful political forces than any campaign speech, and cautioned the administration against mistaking political defections for genuine public approval, urging it to focus on addressing economic and security challenges rather than political realignments if it hopes to secure another term.
