Daily Times Unveils Centenary Honors for Tinubu, Obasanjo, Jonathan and Other National Figures

Daily Times Nigeria has announced the final list of individuals and institutions to be recognized at its DTN@100 Times Heroes Awards as the newspaper marks 100 years of publication.

The honours include President Bola Tinubu, former presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Also listed are former Daily Times executives and editors including Dele Cole, Segun Osoba, Yemi Ogunbiyi, Tola Adeniyi, Onyema Ugochukwu and Vanguard founder Sam Amuka-Pemu.

The first Miss Nigeria, Grace Oyelede, who was crowned in 1957, is also among those selected.

The awards ceremony is scheduled for September 3, 2026, at the THISDAY Dome in Abuja.

Chairman of the DTN@100 Heroes Awards Council Bolaji Okusaga said the recognition formed part of the newspaper’s centenary programme.

Daily Times began publication in 1926 and has documented major political, economic, social and cultural developments in Nigeria over the past century.

Okusaga said the awards were designed to preserve national memory while recognizing individuals and institutions whose leadership, enterprise, public service or innovation had influenced the country.

He said the honorees were selected across governance, politics, business, diplomacy, energy, development, community leadership and other areas.

The centenary programme will also feature the launch of the Nigerian Centenary Book of Change makers, described by organizers as a commemorative publication documenting the contributions of notable Nigerians and institutions.

Daily Times said the wider anniversary celebration was intended to reflect both on the newspaper’s history and on the figures whose work had shaped Nigeria during the period.

Oketola said INEC could not legally select or substitute its own preferred candidate for a person properly nominated by a party.

The commission’s investigation is expected to focus on whether the disputed entries originated from party credentials, administrative error or other causes.

Any finding of misconduct would require further investigation and due process.

Separately, INEC’s Bauchi office published the names and biodata of 19 governorship candidates and their running mates for the 2027 election.

Party officials and supporters visited the commission’s office to verify the displayed list.

The twin developments underline the growing importance of digital audit records as disputes over candidate nomination intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.
