Cristiano Ronaldo Hints at Retirement After 2026-27 Season

Portugal and Al-Nassr superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed that the 2026-27 Saudi Pro League season could be the final campaign of his illustrious professional football career.

The 41-year-old forward, whose contract with the Saudi Arabian club expires next June, said he is unlikely to sign another deal as he prepares to bring his 25-year professional career to an end.

“This is probably my last year of football, and I want to leave a spectacular legacy,” Ronaldo told Vogue magazine.

Ronaldo, who has scored 976 career goals, said he had already begun planning for life after football, noting that the transition would require him to find new interests and activities.

“I have my future all mapped out,” he said. “I have so many things to keep me busy that to tell you just one thing is hard.”

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner said he plans to travel more, spend time with family and friends, watch and play padel, and enjoy the rewards of a career built over more than two decades.

He described his football journey as one marked by considerable sacrifice, saying his professional career has spanned 25 years.

Ronaldo has enjoyed one of the most decorated careers in football history, winning five Ballon d’Or awards and five UEFA Champions League titles during spells with Sporting Lisbon, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus, before joining Al-Nassr.

The Portugal captain also enjoyed a productive 2025-26 season, scoring 28 league goals to help Al-Nassr win the Saudi Pro League title in May. The triumph marked his first trophy since moving to Saudi Arabia and Al-Nassr’s first league championship since 2019.

Ronaldo recently married his long-time partner, Georgina Rodriguez, earlier this month.

Following his wedding, he was absent from Al-Nassr’s opening match of the new league season on Saturday, watching from the sidelines as the club began its title defence with a 3-0 victory over Al-Fateh.

If Ronaldo follows through with his plans, the 2026-27 season could mark the final chapter of a career that has established him as one of the greatest and most prolific footballers of all time.
