A coalition of civil society organisations has commended President Bola Tinubu and Nigeria’s security agencies for reforms it says are strengthening the country’s security architecture.
The coalition cited expansion of the military and improved personnel welfare as measures capable of reinforcing the capacity of the armed forces to protect Nigeria’s sovereignty.
It also praised military and security personnel for their role in defending democratic institutions and combating terrorism and other threats.
The group called on Nigerians to support security institutions and avoid turning insecurity into a partisan political issue.
According to the coalition, lasting peace will require cooperation between citizens, communities and the security agencies.
It urged public debate on security to remain constructive, stressing that criticism should not undermine the morale of personnel engaged in dangerous operations.
The coalition maintained that national unity remained essential to sustaining progress against terrorism, banditry and other forms of violent crime.
