Businessman Petitions Authorities Over Alleged Demolition of Lekki Property

A Lagos businessman has petitioned the Senate President, Inspector General of Police and Police Service Commission over the demolition of a property in Lekki Phase One, alleging that police officers participated despite an existing court order.

The petitioner, Akeem Osuolale Ogunseye, made the allegations through his lawyer, Marshal Abubakar, in correspondence dated October 27, 2026. The petitions sought an investigation into the conduct of Assistant Inspector General of Police Jimoh Moshood and other persons allegedly involved.

Ogunseye claimed an interest in Plot 77, Lekki Peninsula Scheme One, and said the property contained a family residence and other structures valued at more than ₦1 billion.

He said the ownership dispute was before the Court of Appeal in Lagos and alleged that an order preserving the status quo had been issued. According to the petitions, demolition equipment and armed personnel entered the site despite notice of the proceedings.

The petitioner also alleged that an earlier complaint submitted to the police was disregarded. He asked the authorities to investigate the incident, enforce any subsisting court order and consider disciplinary or criminal action if wrongdoing was established.

These are serious allegations contained in a petition, not judicial findings. The supplied report does not include a response from the named police officer, the police authorities, the other parties to the property dispute or the company identified in the litigation.

Publication should await examination of the title documents, the actual court order, the appeal record, independent evidence of the demolition and responses from those accused.
