Burna Boy, Shakira Dazzle Fans at 2026 World Cup Opening Ceremony

Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Burna Boy and Colombian music star Shakira delivered a memorable performance at the opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Thursday, thrilling thousands of fans at the iconic Estadio Azteca in Mexico City.

The colourful ceremony took place ahead of the tournament’s opening match between co-hosts Mexico and South Africa, setting the stage for the month-long football spectacle.

Spectators were treated to an elaborate display featuring dancers performing around a giant replica of the FIFA World Cup trophy, while fireworks illuminated the sky above the historic stadium.

Estadio Azteca, which has a capacity of 80,000 and previously hosted the 1970 and 1986 World Cup finals, recently underwent renovations in preparation for the 2026 tournament.

The highlight of the ceremony came when Burna Boy and Shakira took to the stage to perform “Dai Dai,” the official song of the 2026 World Cup. Their energetic performance drew loud cheers and applause from the crowd, with many fans rising to their feet to join in the celebration.

The opening ceremony marked the beginning of another historic World Cup, with music, culture and football coming together to create a festive atmosphere before the first ball was kicked.
