Budget and Economic Planning Minister Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, BudgIT Director Oluseun Onigbinde and CISLAC Executive Director Auwal Rafsanjani are scheduled to lead discussions on budget integrity, legislative oversight and unlawful insertions at the 2026 Capacity-Building Workshop of the Senate Press Corps.
The event is scheduled for the National Assembly in Abuja and will bring together lawmakers, public-finance experts, civil society advocates, journalists and technology practitioners.
Its theme is “Leveraging Legislative Oversight and Media Collaboration to Safeguard the National Budget from Unlawful Insertions.”
Senate Press Corps Chairman Taiye Odewale said the workshop was designed to strengthen understanding of the budget process and improve media scrutiny of appropriations and public expenditure.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin and senior committee chairmen are among the officials expected to attend.
The programme will focus on oversight, transparency, media collaboration and the processes through which appropriations are scrutinized, amended and implemented.
It will also include a training session on artificial-intelligence tools for contemporary journalism.
Organizers said the workshop was intended to improve professional reporting of legislative and budgetary processes and promote stronger public accountability.
