The Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, has announced that China Industrial Bank (CIB) has reaffirmed its commitment to the Nigeria Universal Communication Access Project (NUCAP), a major national initiative aimed at expanding digital connectivity across underserved communities.
Tijani disclosed this after receiving a delegation from CIB led by Peng Shuang, General Manager of Strategic Emerging Industries Business Headquarters, who visited to restate the bank’s support for the project.
NUCAP is designed to extend telecommunications access to more than 20 million Nigerians in rural, riverine and hard-to-reach communities through the deployment of about 3,700 telecoms towers nationwide.
According to the minister, the initiative will deliver a fully green network of modern telecommunications infrastructure aimed at closing Nigeria’s connectivity gap and strengthening the digital foundation for inclusive economic growth.
He noted that the project represents CIB’s first investment in Nigeria, describing it as a sign of growing international confidence in the country’s digital economy agenda and long-term development vision.
Tijani also expressed optimism over the bank’s commitment to supporting the rollout of at least 1,000 tower sites before the end of the year, a milestone he said would significantly expand access to digital services and economic opportunities.
He added that improved connectivity would help integrate millions of Nigerians into the digital economy, particularly in communities that have historically lacked reliable telecommunications infrastructure.
