Benue Governor Convenes Reconciliation Summit to Reunite APC Ahead of 2027

Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has convened a high-level reconciliation meeting of All Progressives Congress stakeholders, personally inviting Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator George Akume alongside members of the National and State Assemblies and other key party figures, in a concerted push to close internal divisions and present a united front ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The governor made the disclosure shortly after receiving his Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms, purchased on his behalf by the Benue State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners and the Benue Motorcycle Owners Association in a joint gesture of support for his re-election bid.

Alia said all invitees had confirmed their attendance and expressed optimism that the meeting would produce a genuine and lasting reconciliation. “We have all agreed that by Sunday they will come. My delegation will be there, and we will blend and become one. It is very vital for me and for the state,” he said.

He framed the internal divisions within the APC as insignificant relative to the shared objectives that united members and argued that the party’s electoral performance in 2023 had to be substantially surpassed in 2027. “What divides us is not strong enough; what unites us is larger, bigger and stronger. Benue has become APC, and no one must be left behind. What we recorded in 2023 must be doubled in 2027,” he said.

On governance, Alia dismissed opposition allegations of neglect toward Benue South Senatorial District, disclosing that over N76 billion in road projects were ongoing in the zone. He also highlighted active work on major water infrastructure projects including the Greater Makurdi Water Works, Gboko Water Works, and Katsina-Ala Water Works, alongside efforts to revive the Taraku Oil Mills and plans for new industrial investments including a brewery and fruit juice and concentrate factories. He described the opposition to his industrial agenda as largely driven by individuals who had previously benefited from the mismanagement of state resources and who therefore resisted the accountability and reform his administration was pursuing.
