Bauchi APC Crisis Deepens as Former Deputy Governor and Aspirants Resign

The internal crisis in the Bauchi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has deepened following the resignation of several prominent members and former aspirants ahead of the 2027 general election.

Among those reported to have left the party are former Deputy Governor Sagir Aminu Saleh, former two-time governorship aspirant Muhammad Bala Jibrin and Sunusi Aliyu Kunde, an associate of former Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Maitama Tuggar.

The departures come despite reconciliation efforts led by a committee headed by former House of Representatives Speaker Yakubu Dogara.

Aggrieved members have accused the state party leadership of injustice, weak internal democracy and candidate imposition during recent primaries.

Those allegations are disputed political claims and have not been independently established in the material supplied.

Saleh formally resigned in a letter dated August 19, citing personal reasons.

Jibrin, a former national auditor of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change and a two-time APC governorship aspirant, resigned through a letter dated August 31 and withdrew his support for the party with immediate effect.

Kunde also announced his resignation in August.

Tijjani Mohammed Aliyu, an aspirant for Katagum Federal Constituency, left the party after alleging that the primary process involved predetermined results, vote allocation and violations of party rules.

Abubakar Dahuwa Abdulkadir also resigned, alleging that a planned direct primary for the Azare/Madangala State Assembly constituency was not conducted as promised.

Other names reported among those leaving include Sulaiman Sunusi Lalaye, Sani Muhammad Night, Rabi’u Abubakar Bishi and Mohammed Bakoji Maiwada.

There were also reports that additional senior members could follow, although some of those claims had not been independently confirmed.

The resignations present a fresh challenge for the APC as it attempts to consolidate its structure and resolve internal grievances before the 2027 campaign intensifies.
