Bagudu Tells Global Investors Tinubu’s Reforms Have Improved Nigeria’s Investment Climate

Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Bagudu, has assured global investors that the economic reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu’s administration have strengthened Nigeria’s investment climate, positioning the country as one of Africa’s most attractive destinations for long-term investment.

Bagudu gave the assurance while speaking at the Third Hamburg Sustainability Conference in Hamburg, Germany, where he said the government’s macroeconomic reforms had restored investor confidence and created a solid foundation for private sector-led growth across key sectors of the economy.

According to the minister, the reforms have enhanced macroeconomic stability, making Nigeria increasingly attractive for investments in infrastructure, energy, agriculture, manufacturing, digital innovation and climate-resilient development.

He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for sustainable investment through continued macroeconomic reforms aimed at restoring investor confidence, strengthening fiscal sustainability and expanding opportunities for private sector participation.

In a statement issued after the event, Bagudu said Nigeria remains committed to leveraging international partnerships to mobilise sustainable investments, build economic resilience and accelerate the country’s transition to a competitive, inclusive and climate-responsive economy.

The Hamburg Sustainability Conference, jointly organised by the Government of Germany, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Michael Otto Foundation and other global partners, brought together heads of government, ministers, development finance institutions, multilateral organisations, private sector leaders, academics and development experts.

The conference focused on strengthening international cooperation, mobilising investment, fostering strategic partnerships and advancing innovative financing solutions to support sustainable development, climate action, resilient economies and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

On the sidelines of the conference, Bagudu held discussions with the Chief Executive Officer of the German-African Business Association, Claudia Voss, who introduced him to senior executives of European financial institution ODDO BHF.

The institution, which has investments in reforestation, carbon credit financing, sustainable forestry and other green projects across Africa, reportedly commended the Nigerian government’s economic reforms, noting that recent policy measures had significantly improved the country’s investment outlook and boosted international investor confidence.

The discussions explored potential collaboration in sustainable forestry, climate finance, carbon market development, environmental restoration and innovative financing mechanisms to support Nigeria’s transition to a low-carbon economy.

Bagudu highlighted Nigeria’s vast natural resources, expanding carbon market potential and commitment to sustainable land management as key opportunities for mutually beneficial partnerships capable of delivering economic, environmental and social benefits.

The minister also met with officials of the H2Global Foundation to discuss a roadmap for developing Nigeria’s hydrogen fuel industry.

According to the statement, the talks focused on leveraging Nigeria’s abundant renewable energy resources and natural gas reserves to position the country as a competitive producer and exporter of green hydrogen.

The engagement culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning and the H2Global Foundation to establish a framework for cooperation in developing Nigeria’s hydrogen economy.

The agreement is expected to facilitate knowledge transfer, policy support and investment mobilisation aimed at building a hydrogen value chain that will attract new industries, support the country’s energy transition goals and create employment opportunities.
