The Nigerian Army has moved a tactical headquarters to Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State following a deadly attack on Bi Mper community that reportedly left 25 people dead.
General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander of Operation Enduring Peace Maxwell Dangana relocated to Mangu for two weeks to supervise a new security operation known as Operation Hard Nut.
Dangana said the deployment was intended to intensify operations against armed groups responsible for repeated attacks in the area.
The Chief of Army Staff has approved additional troops, equipment and other operational support for the mission.
Addressing soldiers, Dangana said the military had been given the resources required to protect communities and confront armed threats.
The move is intended to provide commanders with direct oversight and faster assessment of security developments in affected communities.
The Plateau State Police Command also announced the arrest of a suspect believed to be connected to the Bi Mper attack.
Police spokesman Alfred Alabo said investigations were continuing and efforts were under way to identify and arrest other suspects.
Human rights and community groups condemned the attack and called for stronger protection of residents.
The military said the temporary relocation of command leadership was intended to improve coordination, intelligence and response capability.
Security agencies are under pressure to restore confidence in Mangu and prevent further attacks after repeated violence in parts of Plateau State.
