The Nigerian Army has commissioned more than 250 Special Intervention Civil-Military Cooperation projects across the six geopolitical zones as part of activities marking the 2026 Nigerian Army Day Celebration, with Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu reaffirming its commitment to strengthening civil-military relations.

Speaking at the inauguration of a renovated community secondary school in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State, the COAS, represented by Chief of Training Major General Valentine Okoro, said the projects underscored the Army’s non-kinetic approach to security through community engagement and infrastructure development.

He said the projects, which include hospitals, schools, town halls, laboratories, roads, solar street lights, boreholes and ICT facilities, were designed to complement government infrastructure and improve living conditions in host communities. In Rivers alone, the Army renovated schools, built a town hall and provided a solar-powered borehole.

Shaibu urged the benefiting community to take ownership of the renovated school and maintain it, and thanked traditional rulers and the state government for their collaboration. He assured Nigerians that the Army would continue both kinetic and non-kinetic operations in partnership with communities and other agencies.

Chief of Civil-Military Affairs Major General Musa Etsu-Ndagi, represented by Major General Julius Osifo, described the projects as a reflection of the Army’s commitment to national service as it marked its 163rd anniversary. At a separate medical outreach in Okrika, the COAS, represented by Major General Emmanuel Mustapha, said a healthy population was fundamental to national development and lasting peace.
