Army Chief Charges Troops to Ensure Security Ahead of 2027 Elections

Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Waidi Shuaibu, has tasked troops of the Nigerian Army to provide a secure environment for the conduct of free, fair and credible elections in 2027.

Shuaibu gave the charge during a visit to the Headquarters of the Joint Task Force North-East, Operation Hadin Kai, at the Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri.

The army chief stressed the importance of professionalism, discipline and commitment to duty, noting that security personnel have a critical role in safeguarding democratic processes.

“Much is expected from the troops in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities,” he said.

He explained that the visit was aimed at assessing the operational readiness and welfare of troops engaged in counter-insurgency operations in the North-East.

Shuaibu expressed satisfaction with the morale of personnel and urged them to sustain efforts to protect Nigeria’s territorial integrity and maintain peace across the country.

The visit came shortly after President Bola Tinubu directed security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue abducted citizens and eliminate terrorist and bandit camps nationwide.
