Ardo Accuses Tinubu Government of Short-Changing North, Predicts Electoral Backlash in 2027

League of Northern Democrats convener Umar Ardo has accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of giving the North a smaller share of federal resources and appointments, predicting that the President could receive less than 10 per cent of northern votes in a free and fair 2027 election.

Ardo made the claims during an interview on Eagle 102.5 FM.

He argued that disparities were more visible in actual releases to ministries and agencies than in headline budget allocations.

According to Ardo, southern institutions had received substantially more funding than northern counterparts.

He also alleged that key federal appointments and parastatals had disproportionately favoured the South-West and other southern interests.

Those claims are political assertions by Ardo and were not independently verified in the supplied material.

Ardo said the perception of exclusion had damaged the administration’s standing among some northern voters.

He further argued that debates over regional representation were complicated by the cultural and political identities of states such as Kwara and Kogi.

The Tinubu administration has repeatedly defended its appointments and spending priorities as national rather than sectional and has pointed to projects and programmes across the country. Ardo’s intervention nevertheless reflects a growing opposition effort to make regional equity, federal appointments and public spending central issues in the 2027 campaign
