The All Progressives Congress is preparing to profile and harmonies support groups backing President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election in an effort to reduce duplication and improve campaign coordination.
APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda’s special adviser, Yusuf Dingyadi, disclosed the plan at a town hall meeting in Kano.
He said hundreds of political support groups operated under Tinubu’s name, often independently of official party structures.
According to the party, the new process will verify membership, leadership structures, geographical reach and organizational capacity.
Groups that meet established criteria are expected to be formally recognized and issued identification cards.
A technical committee has also been created to build a central database covering support groups in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The database is expected to help the party monitor activity, training and resource allocation during the campaign period.
The APC said one objective was to avoid a repeat of problems experienced in 2023 when some support groups reportedly duplicated activities or communicated inconsistent messages.
Yilwatda said the party wanted a more disciplined structure capable of presenting a unified message around the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The profiling exercise also reflects the APC’s wider effort to bring informal campaign networks under closer party coordination before electioneering intensifies.
The practical impact will depend on how recognition criteria are applied and whether independent support groups accept greater central oversight from the party.
