APC Governors Reject Alliances That Could Undermine Tinubu or Party Candidates

Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress have resolved not to support any political alliance or arrangement they believe could weaken President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign or disadvantage APC candidates in 2027.

Progressives Governors’ Forum Chairman and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma announced the position after a closed-door meeting in Abuja.

He said the governors would campaign only for candidates officially sponsored by the APC.

The forum said arrangements capable of creating divided loyalties or competing interests within the party would not be supported.

Uzodimma said governors would lead mobilization in their respective states and ensure that campaign structures aligned with the party’s national strategy.

The forum identified grassroots mobilization, internal unity and coordination between national and subnational campaign structures as central priorities.

The governors said the campaign would seek to engage different demographic and social groups while linking state-level development messages to the federal government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The resolution appears aimed partly at preventing APC governors or local party structures from supporting non-APC candidates in other races while backing Tinubu at the presidential level.

It also reflects wider political tension over cross-party alliances and individual political relationships ahead of the 2027 elections. The governors said their position was straightforward: support for President Tinubu would not extend to endorsing rival candidates against official APC nominees
