APC Denies Alleged Plot to Assassinate Atiku, Demands Proof From Timi Frank

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council has dismissed allegations that the Federal Government is plotting to assassinate former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

The council’s reaction followed claims made by ADC chieftain Timi Frank, who alleged that security personnel attached to Atiku had been withdrawn as part of a plan to endanger the opposition figure.

In a statement signed by APC Presidential Campaign Council spokesperson, Dele Alake, the council described the allegations as false, baseless and politically motivated.

The council challenged Frank to provide evidence to support his claims and urged security agencies to investigate the matter.

“This is a grave allegation that Mr Frank must prove. We thus urge security agencies to invite him to substantiate the allegation, given its gravity and the urgent need to preserve life,” the statement said.

The APC further rejected claims that Atiku’s security details had been withdrawn, insisting that the former vice president continues to enjoy adequate protection from both the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services.

According to the statement, President Bola Tinubu recently directed security agencies to strengthen protection for presidential, vice-presidential, governorship and deputy governorship candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The council maintained that Atiku’s security arrangements had not been compromised, noting that he enjoys state-funded protection as a former vice president in addition to security provided to him as a presidential candidate.

Reaffirming the ruling party’s commitment to democratic principles, the APC said opposition politics remains a critical component of Nigeria’s democratic development.

It noted that President Tinubu spent 16 years in opposition politics and played a leading role in building the coalition that ended the Peoples Democratic Party’s dominance in 2015.

The council accused Frank of attempting to create unnecessary tension in the polity and urged political actors to conduct their campaigns responsibly and focus on issues of national importance rather than making unsubstantiated allegations.
