Ambode Backs Hamzat, Sets Vote Target for Tinubu in Lagos

Former Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has formally congratulated Deputy Governor Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat on his emergence as the consensus governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos State, describing the outcome as a fitting and well-deserved recognition of over two decades of loyalty, hard work, and principled commitment to the party.

In a formal statement, Ambode said Hamzat’s deliberate and wide-ranging consultations across the party hierarchy and membership before his adoption as consensus candidate demonstrated the qualities of a leader genuinely committed to party unity and the values of progress. He described the emergence as a reflection of loyalty, hard work, and dedication spanning more than two decades.

The former governor simultaneously reaffirmed his unshakeable support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election, expressing strong conviction that the continued governance of the president was directly tied to the greater prosperity of Lagos and Nigeria as a whole.

He set a specific electoral target for the Lagos APC, calling on the party to deliver at least three million votes for the president from the state while also supporting other South-West states to maximize their own results. He pledged to work actively toward delivering landslide victories for the party at both state and federal levels as the electoral process unfolded.
