Rotimi Amaechi has urged opposition parties to work together ahead of the 2027 general election, warning that a divided opposition would make it easier for the All Progressives Congress to retain power.
Amaechi spoke while receiving a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki on a condolence visit following the death of his mother, Dame Mary Amaechi.
He said opposition leaders must place national interest above personal ambitions and partisan differences.
According to him, cooperation remained the most realistic path to presenting voters with a credible alternative.
The PDP delegation expressed sympathy to Amaechi and recalled his years in the party as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly and governor.
In a separate development, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde asked the Methodist Church Nigeria for prayers and support for his 2027 presidential ambition.
Makinde spoke at the church’s biennial conference in Ibadan.
He said Nigeria required leadership capable of uniting citizens and placing public service above personal interest.
The governor commended the Methodist Church for its contributions to education, healthcare, community development and moral instruction.
He said government needed stronger collaboration with faith-based organizations to build a peaceful and prosperous country.
Methodist Prelate Oliver Ali Aba urged the Federal Government to intensify efforts against insecurity, inflation, kidnapping and banditry.
Supporters of Makinde also announced the opening of online registration for volunteers and mobilization agents promoting his Reset Nigeria agenda.
The campaign group said the initiative aimed to build support across the 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory and the diaspora.
